Website Weekly Growth Reflection #017
“Gratefulness helps you appreciate what you have more.”
Paul Fawcett | Effective Influence
Opening introduction
It is easy to want more.
More time, more success, more of what others seem to have.
But gratefulness turns our attention to something different: what we already have.
Why this matters
What we focus on grows in our attention.
When we focus on what is missing, we tend to feel that something is always lacking.
When we practise gratefulness, we begin to notice what is already present.
The people who support us.
The opportunities we have been given.
The ordinary things we can easily take for granted.
Gratefulness does not mean we stop growing or wanting better.
It means we stop overlooking what is good right now.
And when we notice it, we appreciate it more.
This matters most in our relationships.
The people closest to us can become so familiar that we stop seeing them clearly.
Their effort becomes expected.
Their presence becomes assumed.
Gratefulness helps us see them again.
And when we see them, we are more likely to tell them they matter.
That is how appreciation strengthens the bonds between us.
Reflect
What do you have right now that you may be taking for granted?
Who in your life has become so familiar that you may have stopped noticing them?
How might your relationships change if you expressed appreciation more often?
This week’s action
Write down three people you are grateful for.
Choose one of them and tell them, specifically, what you appreciate about them.
Do it this week, while the thought is fresh.
Closing thought
Gratefulness does not give us more. It helps us value what we already have. And when we value it, we look after it better.
