Opening introduction

It is possible to be busy every day and still not know where you are going.

Vision is what gives the effort a direction.

Without it, people and teams can work hard and still lose heart.

Why this matters

In leadership, it is easy to focus on getting through the week.

There are problems to solve, people to support and deadlines to meet.

That work matters. But when it is all we see, we can slowly lose sight of the bigger picture.

Vision is not a slogan on a wall.

It is a clear sense of where we are heading and why it matters.

It helps people understand how their effort connects to something bigger.

It helps us decide what to say yes to and what to leave alone.

It gives energy when the work is hard.

When vision is missing, people often still turn up and still do the work.

But something is lost.

Decisions become reactive.

Priorities shift with whatever is loudest.

People start to ask, quietly, “What is all this for?”

That is why this quote carries weight.

People do not only need tasks. They need direction and meaning.

Vision also needs space.

It is hard to see clearly when every moment is taken up with the next demand.

Sometimes we need to step away from the familiar, into a different environment, to let the bigger picture come back into focus.

When leaders make that space, they come back with more than a plan.

They come back with a clearer sense of purpose that others can see and follow.

1.          Where are you busy, but unclear about the direction you are heading?

2.          Who around you may be working hard without seeing how their effort connects to something bigger?

3.          What would help you create space to think beyond this week?

This week’s action

Block out one hour this week in a different environment, away from your usual workspace and distractions.

Take one question with you:

“What am I really working towards over the next three years?”

Write down what comes to mind before you return to your normal rhythm.

Vision does not remove the hard work. It gives the hard work a reason. When we make space to see clearly, we lead with more purpose and help others do the same.
